A wonderful rendition, the wine shows blackcurrant, dried herb, game, espresso and cedary oak characters on the nose. The superbly weighted palate is filled with rich fruit intensity, combined with silky texture and layers of chalky tannins, making it both sturdy and velvety. Mouthfilling and deliciously long. At its best: now to 2036.

The fruit here, from a stellar vintage, comes from a single vineyard of terra rossa soil in Coonawarra. Maturation was for 21 months in French hogsheads and barriques (28% new).
The wine has a dark chocolate hue with a nose redolent of blackberries, mint, chocolate, earthy tones and bay leaves. A savoury style which, with a little time, sees the emergence of notes of aniseed and axle grease (in a positive way). There is good focus here and fine structure, with decent length. Neatly balanced, this will be better in two to three years and then drink very well for the following four to eight. There is so much to like here
