Wonderfully ripe and inviting, the complex bouquet shows dark fruit intensity, assorted nut and toasted spice aromas. It's equally satisfying in the mouth, delivering excellent weight and plump mouthfeel, beautifully framed by velvety tannins. Moreish and fabulously drinkable. At its best: now to 2034.

The famous clipper, the City of Adelaide, celebrated with the William Pile Shiraz, was built in Sunderland, hence the name of this Shiraz from the Limestone Coast region. From a range of sub-regions, including Wrattonbully, Robe, Coonawarra and Padthaway, the wine spent a year and a half maturing in a mix of new and older French and American oak. The colour is a deep maroon/bruised plum. Attractive chocolate notes waft through the array of aromas, with warm earth, blackberries, leather and cloves, with a flick of pepper. There is a touch of charry oak. A wine of medium length with a supple texture and sleek tannins, the palate moves to a more savoury and briary style. Six to eight years ahead of it.
